Overview on the Department
The Department of Chemistry of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) aims at developing young talent for the chemical industry and academia. The curriculum is developed in such a way that the students are able to venture into allied fields too. The aim of the department through the courses it offers is to provide “a cut above the rest” man-power to the ever growing demands of the industry and to prepare students for higher studies and research. The interactive method of teaching at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) is to bring about attitudinal changes to future professionals of the industry.
Equal importance is given to practical and theoretical methods of learning apart from experiential and digital modes of learning. Industrial projects form an integral part of the curriculum. Apart from the syllabus, the University emphasizes on Value Addition Programs like Current Affairs, Holistic Education, Certificate Courses and Placement Training Programs, which include training students in group discussions, facing interviews and so on.

Programme Eligibility
Basic eligibility for the programme is a pass at the +2 level (Karnataka PUC / ISC / CBSE / NIOS / State Boards) from any recognised Board in India.
It is compulsory to have studied any two subjects (Biotechnology, Chemistry, and Botany (Biology)) at Class XII level.
Candidates writing the +2 examinations in March-May 2020 may apply with their class X and XI marks.
Students pursuing an International curriculum must note that eligibility is according to AIU stipulations:
Applicants pursuing IB curriculum must have 3 HL and 3 SL with 24 credits.
Applicants pursuing GCE / Edexcel must have a minimum of 3 A levels with a grade not less than C.

Programme Eligibility
Eligibility for the programme is a pass at the +2 level (Karnataka PUC / ISC / CBSE / NIOS / State Boards) from any recognised Board in India.
Candidates writing the +2 examinations in March-May 2020 may apply with their class X and XI marks.
It is compulsory to have studied Mathematics along with either Physics or Chemistry at Class XII level.
Students pursuing an International curriculum must note that eligibility is according to AIU stipulations:
Applicants pursuing IB curriculum must have 3 HL and 3 SL with 24 credits.
Applicants pursuing GCE / Edexcel must have a minimum of 3 A levels with a grade not less than C.
Master of Science (MSc) General Chemistry/ Analytical Chemistry/ Organic Chemistry [BCC]
Programme Eligibility
Candidates who have passed the Undergraduate degree with a minimum aggregate of 50% and above and (minimum of 50% in Chemistry), from any recognised University in India or abroad recognised by UGC / AIU, are eligible to apply.
Students appearing for their final degree examinations in March-May 2021 are also eligible to apply (Applicants who are in the last year of their studies should have secured 50% or above aggregate in all the Semesters / Years of Undergraduate Examinations conducted so far) and 50% of marks in (Chemistry).

Can I opt for any course from the Triple subjects for MSc?
Yes, you can.
Is Research is also embedded with the syllabus?
No, it is not there in the UG Syllabus but you can join with Professors who are working on it.
Can we increase our credits by doing Electives?
Yes, Each Open Elective course gives two credits.
Are Open Electives are a must?
Yes you must complete at least two before graduation.
How many total credits are there in Triple Major Program?
159 credits.
What are the credible sites or journals where students get chance to publish their papers guided by the Chemistry department?
Under the guidance of highly qualified teachers, students have been able to publish their works in journals like ScienceDirect, Nature, etc.
What are the exposure towards hand in experience like seminars and project development?
Project ideas are always welcomed and hand in experience is also provided to develop the idea after discussion with the faculties and under their guidance.
What are the social responsibilities towards the department?
Active Participation of the department in contributing towards the UN - SDG (Sustainability Development Goals) is one of the examples.

Fests organized by the chemistry association like CHEMOZ (inter-college) and SPIRITS (inter-class) - even sports provide the students with opportunities to showcase their knowledge in various ways.

Internship recommendations are provided, and collaborations are done to help the students with the same.

Industrial visits are also arranged in the 2nd and final years of the course to provide basic idea to the students regarding the same.
What happens during the journal club?
Students must choose a published journal article, study it in depth, and present that paper to all the students and faculties in the Chemistry department.
What is the package that Masters students receive for their jobs?
Masters students can receive a package of around Rs. 2.5-4.5 LPA , depending on the company and nature of work.
