Overview on the Department

The department was established in the year 1990, with a  curriculum in line with industry expectations and research. The department also provides opportunities to work on collaborative projects with industry and international universities, faculty expertise in recent technologies and Alumni support are some of the department highlights.

About the Department

 Evaluation for practical courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of the Department :

All programming and project labs follow periodic and structured assessment methodology. The programming lab courses cater to the differential needs of learners and ensure that the learning curve is enhanced. The exercises are designed following the blooms taxonomy and ensure that higher thinking skills of the learner are appropriately assessed. This ensures progression of the programming skills from basic to advanced. Use of the “CodeTantra” platform in the programming labs has supplemented the evaluation methodology by providing real time feedback and performance analysis.

Teaching pedagogy that enables experiential learning :

Workshop model of teaching-learning where the learner understands the application of the concept taught by hands on training is used in all programming courses. Case based demonstration of theoretical concepts have proven more effective in courses like Cloud Computing, Software Engineering. 

Evaluation of research methodology course :

To strengthen the research interest in the post graduate students, the research methodology course evaluation methodology has been redesigned. The comprehensive viva-voce taken up by panel of teachers to assess the student & understanding about the research problem, the gap analysis presented by the student would lead to quality research.

Admission FAQs 

What is the duration of the courses ?

Three years consisting of six semesters.

How are the students  assessed?

Students will be assigned CIAs (Continuous Internal Assessment) throughout the year, besides their mid semester and end semester exams.

How is the BSc  courses distinct from other courses I have followed?

There are limited colleges in India which offer a triple major degree in Science, which makes this course stand out. It allows you to explore different interests. It also boosts thinking ability.

Will there be an additional languages to learn in BCA?

Yes, additional foreign languages such as French and German are taught

Will there be real time projects for BCA students?

Yes, in 4th, 5th and 6th semester the students are required to build a real time project on different domains in the field of computer science.

Is it necessary to be proficient in any one  programing language?

No, in the duration of the course the students learn various programing languages from the very basics.

Are students required to have their personal laptops when they join the course?

Yes, each student is expected to have a personal laptop, for regular lab work and for their personal studies. They also have access to the desktops presnt in the labs. 

What sort of practicals would the students have, during the semesters, and how relevant would these practicals be in their career?

Over the course of 3 years students will be studying various subjects where they will explore both the practical and theoretical aspect of the subject. Practical labs are an important part of the course and students are assessed on a weekly basis. Every practical activity is planned to help students in their future works.
