Overview on the Department
This is one of the oldest departments of Christ University (formerly Christ College) started from the inception of the Institution in 1969. This serves as a valuable foundation to many students for understanding cellular and molecular level organization in living beings. The uniqueness of the department essentially lies in the fact that within its faculty there are experts and active researchers representing almost all areas of modern biology.
The core biology subjects like Cytology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular biology, Genetics and specialized courses like Disease biology, Plant biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, Analytical Techniques, Plant Tissue Culture and Phytochemistry would make students acquire skills in doing research in Universities, R&D Centers.

Programme Eligibility
On successful completion of the BSc Programme students will be able to.

Programme Eligibility
Basic eligibility for the programme is a pass at the +2 level (Karnataka PUC / ISC / CBSE / NIOS / State Boards) from any recognised Board in India.
It is compulsory to have studied any two subjects (Biotechnology, Chemistry and Botany(Biology)) at Class XII level.
Candidates writing the +2 examinations in March-May 2020 may apply with their class X and XI marks.
Students pursuing an International curriculum must note that eligibility is according to AIU stipulations:
Applicants pursuing IB curriculum must have 3 HL and 3 SL with 24 credits.
Applicants pursuing GCE / Edexcel must have a minimum of 3 A levels with a grade not less than C.

Programme Eligibility

The core biology subjects like Cytology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, etc which are offered in the first year make the students appreciate the implications of these subjects in further research in Animal Sciences. All the courses in the programme are carefully designed to equip the students for competitive exams like CSIR NET, SET, etc, and also to write research proposals for grants. Modules on Forensic Biology, Aquaculture, Entomology, Bioanalytical Tools, Biostatistics, etc would make the students ready to take up either jobs or research in those aspects.
Master of Science (MSc) Biotechnology [BCC]
Programme Eligibility
Basic eligibility for the programme is a pass at the +2 level (Karnataka PUC / ISC / CBSE / NIOS / State Boards) from any recognised Board in India.
It is compulsory to have studied any two subjects (Biotechnology, Chemistry and Botany(Biology)) at Class XII level.
Candidates who have passed Undergraduate degree examination with 50 % aggregate marks and (minimum of 50% in Zoology) from any recognised University in India or abroad recognised by UGC / AIU are eligible to apply.
Students appearing for their final degree examinations in March-May 2021 are also eligible to apply (Applicants who are in the last year of their studies should have secured 50% or above aggregate in all the Semesters / Years of Undergraduate Examinations conducted so far) and 50% of marks in (Zoology).
Master of Science (MSc) Botany [BCC]
Programme Eligibility
Basic eligibility for the programme is a pass at the +2 level (Karnataka PUC / ISC / CBSE / NIOS / State Boards) from any recognised Board in India.
It is compulsory to have studied any two subjects (Biotechnology, Chemistry and Botany(Biology)) at Class XII level.
Candidates who have passed Undergraduate degree examination with 50 % aggregate marks and (minimum of 50% in Zoology) from any recognised University in India or abroad recognised by UGC / AIU are eligible to apply.
Students appearing for their final degree examinations in March-May 2021 are also eligible to apply (Applicants who are in the last year of their studies should have secured 50% or above aggregate in all the Semesters / Years of Undergraduate Examinations conducted so far) and 50% of marks in (Botany).
Master of Science (MSc) Forensic Science [BCC]
Programme Eligibility
Candidates who have completed their undergraduate degree in any branches of Science with 50 % aggregate marks and 50% of marks in the cognate subject from any recognised University in India or abroad recognised by UGC / AIU are eligible to apply.
Applicants who are in the final year of their studies and writing their final year in March-May 2021 should have secured 50% or above aggregate in all the Semesters / Years of Undergraduate Examinations conducted so far and 50% of marks in the cognate subject.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Botany [BCC]
Programme Eligibility
CHRIST follows University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D Degrees) Regulations, 2016 and the subsequent Amendments.
The minimum eligibility of candidates intending to pursue a doctoral programme is a pass with a minimum of 55% in the postgraduate programme in the discipline/specialization. Students who have completed their post-graduation from an international university must submit an equivalency certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Every candidate has to take the PhD Entrance Examination and Interview to be held on June 15, 2019, or on June 22, 2019, or on any other date announced. However, as per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degrees) Regulations, 2016 (#5.1), those who qualify UGC- NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/ SLET/GATE/ teacher fellowship holder or have passed M.Phil Programme shall be exempted from the PhD Entrance Examination. Those candidates take a Research Skill Assessment Test along with their Personal Interview.
