Overview on the Department

At the undergraduate level, the curriculum focuses on providing a solid base on a diverse range of mathematical subjects, developing technological competency, soft skill and life development. FOSS tools like Scilab, Maxima, and Python are introduced at the undergraduate level. In addition, tools like Matlab, Python, R, Origin and Octave are used for data analysis and computation. In the two-year post-graduate programme a comprehensive syllabus (in accordance with NET/UGC-CSIR syllabus), add-on-courses, summer-internships, self-learning through MOOCs, project work and journal club activities are some of the key features.

A curriculum development cell periodically reviews the curriculum and oversees needed changes. Regular feedback from Students, Alumni, Industry and Academic Experts enhances the quality of an up-to-date syllabus and helps in initiating changes as and when required. Doctoral students numbering 53 contribute to the vibrant ambience of research. Annually the department publishes about 70 research papers in reputed journals. Empowered by experienced, research-focused, committed and skilled team of 19 faculty members, armed with an innovative and updated curriculum and equipped with the best practices of imparting mathematical knowledge, the department has been  successful in providing education which is scientific, meaningful and employable as envisaged in the National Policy of Education 2020 of India.
