Established in 1969, the Department of Economics is one of the strongest and vibrant departments in the institution. The Department of Economics has distinguished itself to be one of the leading centers of learning Economics in the country. The Department has the distinction of having developed a unique and challenging curriculum and syllabi at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral Research levels. Students and scholars are trained to analyze concrete problems with the help of conceptual frames, theoretical insights and mathematical, statistical, and econometric tools along with computer applications. Various academic programmes offer a comprehensive package with a thrust on both theoretical and practical applications.

The Department of Economics at the Bannerghatta Road campus is functioning under the School of Social Sciences in CHRIST (Deemed to be University). Established in the year 2016 with the commencement of the new Campus at Bannerghatta Road, the department has a representation of faculty from all cultures and regions in India and with qualifications from the top institutions in the country and abroad. Together with rich experience in teaching, research and consultancy, they specialize in Monetary and Financial Economics, Environmental Economics, Behavioural Economics, Industrial Economics, Informal Economy, involving in advanced research.
The department offers an Honours programme in Economics which excels in its theoretical orientation and analytical skill formation. Master of Arts (MA) Applied Economics / (1+1) MA Economics, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) [BCC]
Programme Eligibility
Minimum GPA: Students should have a minimum GPA of 3.24 out of 4.0 in the UG degree program.
Performance in First Year MA program: Students should not have any backlogs in the first year MA (Applied Economics) Program.
Test Score: GMAT, GRE or TOEFL test scores are not required--waived for MA (Applied Economics) Students.
Passport: Students should have a valid Indian passport.
Financial Capability: Students or his/her family should have the financial capability to show the proof of funding for education and living expenses in the USA.
Master of Arts Economics (Interdisciplinary Masters Programme) [BCC]
Programme Eligibility
Candidates applying for the above programmes must possess a recognised undergraduate degree with minimum 50 percent marks. Preference will be given to candidates with work experience. The duration of the programme shall be a minimum of 2 years to a maximum of 4 years with one year extension given to students upon payment of an extension fee.
Master of Arts (MA) Applied Economics / (1+1) MS Applied Economics, University of Cincinnati [BCC]
Programme Eligibility
Candidates who have passed Undergraduate degree examination with 50 % aggregate marks from any recognised University in India or abroad recognised by UGC / AIU are eligible to apply.
Students appearing for their final degree examinations in March-May 2022 are also eligible to apply (Applicants who are in the last year of their studies should have secured 50% or above aggregate in all the Semesters / Years of Undergraduate Examinations conducted so far).

Will BSc EMS require prior knowledge of the 3 subjects as a part of school/PU curriculum?
No, you do not require prior knowledge, except for Mathematics in the PU curriculum.

"There aren’t any such prerequisites, as at Christ the curriculum is designed to start from the ground level to build upon a strong foundation. However, it is always preferred if the student has studied economics and mathematics at the +2 level adding further to the student’s convenience to understand various concepts covered in the curriculum."
Does the curriculum focus on software applications in the subject matter?
"Yes, the curriculum includes the learning of applications; excel and R. in the curriculum itself. The department recognises the need to know these applications in today’s world for research and analysis purposes. "

What are triple majors as a whole?
"B.A. triple major involves pursuing a degree having majors in three subjects. Such a course is designed for learners who aim to enrich themselves with the knowledge wealth of multi-specializations rather than uni-specialization. The economics department offers the course B.A. EPS (economics, psychology and sociology)."

What is the scope of the course BA EMP?
All the three subjects are taught in a way that makes it highly relevant to the current issues dealing with the society. With its high relatedness to each other, the subjects give students the scope to think and analyse from different perspectives.
What is a Triple Major course and why a Triple major course??
A triple major course allows you to specialize in three different subjects that are usually interrelated to each other. Here at Christ (Deemed To be University) the student gets to choose one particular subject for their research by the end of their fourth semester (electives being separate subjects). Till then all the students have common subjects and study the same subjects as per the course plan set by the respective clusters.
A Triple major course helps achieve a better understanding of subjects that interest students the most. It also helps increase insights and helps relate the dynamics of different subjects thus promoting new thoughts and ideas.
How is the course structured?
The course is designed in a way to increase the intellectual capacity of a student with various assessments that deal with developments over the years it gives the student a better understanding of the subjects. The marking structure of the course will be the same as other courses.
What will I be able to do after completing this course?
The students will be able to choose a subject of their choice and study further on the same and will also be eligible to sit for placements provided by the campus.
How is Economic Honors different from an Economics course at Christ?
BA Economics Honors programme offers an interdisciplinary approach by offering non-core subjects such as Psychology, Political Science and Business and integrated courses in Sociology and History in the course structure. Honors programme allows you to specialise in particular subjects which are offered as DSEs (Discipline-specific Electives). One of the key features of the Honors programme is the compulsory internship and dissertation which is supposed to be completed in the final year.

The Economics Honors programme has a perfect combination of theory and quantitative subjects. There are quantitative subjects like Mathematical Economics, Statistics for Economics, Econometrics with a fair share of theory subjects such as Gender Economics, Public Economics etc.
The programme gives an opportunity to choose from a variety of subjects from various disciplines such as business, psychology, English, political science, media studies, etc. in the first and second semester as GECs or Generic Elective courses.
